Course Title: Master Adaptive Learner Framework: A 6-Part Series for Clinical Instructors

Course Description:

This six-part educational series is designed to introduce clinical instructors to the Master Adaptive Learner (MAL) Framework, a structured approach to developing adaptive expertise in physical therapy education. As healthcare continues to evolve, physical therapists must cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning skills to navigate complex clinical environments.

Through interactive sessions, participants will explore the key phases of the MAL Framework—planning, learning, assessing, and adjusting—while gaining practical strategies to foster adaptive learning in their students. This series will provide clinical instructors with tools to enhance student engagement, promote reflective practice, and support lifelong learning in clinical education.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principles and importance of the Master Adaptive Learner Framework in physical therapy education.
  • Explore strategies to facilitate self-regulated learning and adaptability in clinical environments.
  • Learn techniques to promote critical thinking and problem-solving in students.
  • Develop methods to assess and provide feedback that encourages growth and adaptability.
  • Apply the MAL Framework to real-world clinical teaching scenarios.

By the end of the series, participants will be equipped with a deeper understanding of how to guide physical therapy students to become lifelong learners who can effectively adapt to the demands of an ever-changing healthcare landscape.
